Jersey Is First European Location To Launch Electronic Lottery

Today Jersey's government announced it will be the first in Europe to have a scratchcard lottery using electronic machines in shops rather than the more traditional paper lottery tickets. Known as electronic instant tickets (EIT) will allow players to purchase tickets, select theme boxes and scratch off for a chance to win on an electronic gaming screen. Winners are issued a jackpot receipt and can claim their prizes from the shop registers.

These new digital scratch card machines will be available in many shops that sell Channel Islands Lottery scratchcards presently as well as Jersey's Airport, the Harbour, pubs, hotels and many leading supermarkets. Presumably using EIT will reduce waste and litter while offering players more exciting games and interesting themes. Channel Islands Lottery will become the first government lottery in Europe to run an electronic scratch card gaming system The Global Draw will manage it. This may be the first but is unlikely to be the only place in Europe to move to a more modern scratchcard system.

"We believe electronic instant tickets offer a new opportunity for lottery revenue growth and we are excited to pioneer this technology in Jersey."
said Paul Burnell, director of EIT and Lottery at The Global Draw. "Not only do our new EIT terminals comply with the highest security standards, they also introduce a new and entertaining way to buy lottery tickets, which we believe will lead to increased support for local charities and good causes."

Senator Alan Maclean, Jersey's Economic Development Minister, added: "We are excited about the potential increase in revenue this may generate for local good causes" and as excitement builds The Global Draw announced that the machines will arrive in the island sometime during early October of 2011.

As store scratch cards migrate toward modern digital formats, one wonders why players would choose to go to the shop to play instead of choosing a great game right from home via trusted review sites like which has been at the forefront of digital jackpot gameplay right from the start!
